Doug Ashburn, DVM
Dr. Ashburn graduated from Texas A&M University with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1981. After graduation he practiced at Glenwood Animal Hospital in Tyler, Texas. In 1983 Dr. Ashburn moved to Lufkin and began practicing at East Texas Veterinary Clinic. During this time he also became a managing partner in the Diboll Veterinary Clinic, Inc. In 1988 he purchased 20 acres and a small house just outside the loop on Southwood Drive. After an extensive remodel of the house he opened Southwood Drive Animal Clinic in August 1988. Over the years Southwood Drive Animal Clinic has undergone a metamorphosis from a simple clinic with 2 exam rooms to the modern state of the art animal medical clinic you see today. He lives in Lufkin with his wife Susan and their Miniature Schnauzer, Tess. The Ashburns have a grown daughter, Elyse, who lives and works in Washington D.C. with her husband Paul. Dr. Ashburn has always been active in local civic organizations. He has served as Veterinary Science Leader for the Angelina County 4-H, member and president of the Lufkin Host Lions Club, board member of Hospice in the Pines, board member and president of the Lufkin Independent School District as well as many more. He is also an active member in his church. In his spare time Dr. Ashburn enjoys woodworking. You can see his craftsmanship throughout the clinic. He also enjoys traveling with Susan.
Tammy Carlton, Clinic Manager
Tammy began her service with us in 2002 after working for 16 years at another local veterinary clinic. She is a lifelong resident of Trinity County and graduated from Centerville High School. She is currently working on her certification as a veterinary practice manager. She and her husband are co-owners of TOY Ranch, a cow-calf operation. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband, three children and two grandchildren. She enjoys fishing, sports and showing livestock.
Kathleen Geye, RVT
Kathleen joined the staff of Southwood Drive Animal Clinic in 1990. She was born in California and was raised in Houston. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University, with a degree in Animal Science. She became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 1991. She enjoys gardening, reading, stained glass, jewelry making and has recently started quilting. She shares her home with two dogs, a cat and several goldfish.
Lynn lives in Zavalla with her six year old son. She began working for Southwood Drive Animal Clinic in 2010, after working at another local clinic for eight years. Lynn enjoys horseback riding, hunting, fishing and riding 4-wheelers.
Ashley joined Southwood Drive Animal Clinic in 2014. She is a graduate from Hudson ISD in 2008. She is currently enrolled with Penn & Foster University and has received her Veterinary Assistant diploma and working toward her Veterinary Technician associate degree. Her favorite hobby is spending time with her beautiful daughter Grace. Her other past time includes Tucker her Cur Dog , fishing, camping and spending time on the lake.
Kaylee is 2014 graduate from Apple Springs High School. She has always wanted to work with animals and came to work at Southwood in March 2016. Kaylee spends her free time with her daughter, friends and family. One of her favorite hobbies is horseback riding.
Tessa joined our staff in August 2015. She is a lifelong resident of Pollok/Central. Tessa enjoys spending time with her husband and three daughters. Three dogs, two cats and a pig are also a part of her family. In her off time she enjoys being outdoors.
Kerbie has been with Southwood since 2014. Originally from Arkansas, she moved to Lufkin in 1996 and graduated from Central High School in 2002. She trained to become a national registered EMT and and is currently attending Stephen F. Austin University to become a registered dietician. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, kayaking and spending time with her boyfriend Scott, golden retrievers named Kody and Mattie, cats Kali and Lucy and her chickens.
Heath Jerrett is 19 years old and from Apple Springs. Heath started working for Southwood Drive Animal Clinic in 2014. He loves anything that has to do with the great outdoors and animals. He is an avid hunter and fishermen when not doing that you will find him running or swimming. He is a graduate of the Central Texas School of Taxidermy in Snyder, Texas. He hopes to continue his education and earn a bachelor degree in business or finance. He feels blessed to work with amazing people and animals every day is a new and interesting journey.
Hunter joined the staff of Southwood Drive Clinic for the first time in 2012 and returned to us in 2015. Hunter was born in Nacogdoches, but moved to Wells when he was nine years old and still lives there. He is the son of David Clifton and the late Denise Clifton . Hunter recently graduated from Fire Academy and EMT school at Angelina College. He is seeking employment with a fire department. When not at work or school Hunter enjoys playing basketball, fishing and hunting.
Paula joined our staff in August 2015 after moving to Lufkin from Northern Illinois. She has been married for 30 years and has two sons. Paula has worked in the Veterinary field for fourteen years and animals are her passion. She currently has one dog and one cat.
Monica was raised in Diboll and graduated in 2007 from Diboll High School. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two young sons. She likes to fish, hunt and ride 4-wheelers. She has two dogs that she loves to spoil. Monica feels very blessed to work at Southwood.
Bradley began his employment with Southwood in 2015. He graduated from Central High School in 2016. He is enrolled at Angelia College and is pursuing a certificate in Diesel Technology. He enjoys riding four wheelers, hunting , fishing and spending time with his family.
